This is a list of projects that need to be done on the Ace Attorney Wiki. If you see another project that needs doing, please add it. If you have accomplished a task, please remove it.

This page contains a list of maintenance reports that you may find helpful for finding ways to improve this wiki. In particular, some pages on the wiki have no other articles linking to them, making it difficult for people to notice them. They can be found here.

Additionally, a good number of pages need to be expanded. See Category:Article stubs and Category:Articles in need of expansion for articles in need of expansion.

We are in serious need of experts[]

Historically, the wiki's quality has suffered greatly due to two major factors:

  • A lack of Japanese-fluent Ace Attorney players who have played the Japanese versions of the games. This invariably has meant that content from "newer" games (i.e. Gyakuten Kenji 2 onward), particularly games that have had lengthy delays between the original release and an English release, is generated largely by obvious amateurs with a poor grasp of Japanese and sometimes even of English, resulting in many poor-quality pages.
  • A lack of animation experts has meant that animation galleries have essentially been at the mercy of just anybody who can rip (or steal rips of) a sprite/model animation. In particular, certain important aspects of model animations in the two The Great Ace Attorney games are poorly understood by the current wiki community. The current understanding is that the models used in 2 are different from 1, but mostly only on a structural, largely invisible level, but even this may be wrong or lacking important context.

Files[]

For about 14 years, this wiki has maintained, to varying degrees of success and consistency, a categorization and description system for images, clearly been laid out both below and on Special:Upload, the page normally used to manually upload images. and has done its best to clean up unused files. Unfortunately, these efforts have consistently been thwarted in particular by people who upload model animation rips. The current theory is that people who upload animation rips use an automated helper extension like MsUpload, and thus there is no way to let them know of such conditions without talking to them directly. Various automation tools have been looked into in order to reduce the time/effort burden of maintaining this system, but it has ultimately become untenable. Thus, it has been put on pause indefinitely.

Backlog[]

A list of affected animation galleries is given here for posterity:

Realistically, rectifying all this fully probably requires admin powers, but really the best course of action is probably some kind of automation scheme.

Stolen and "fake" rips[]

It has become evident that some of the rips posted to the various character sprite/model galleries have been stolen from people outside the wiki. Still frames are fine to post without attribution, but the work of reconstructing a model animation should have proper attribution. Ideally, the person who did the rip should make a FANDOM account and upload the rip themselves.

It has also become apparent that some animations originate in Ace Attorney Online and are not actually from the games that they are purported to be from. Please extract animations from the actual games.

Unused files[]

Often, files are left unused. A couple of common reasons for this have been identified:

  • A new version of a file was uploaded on a different page. Please do not do this, and instead upload over the existing file location using the "Upload a new version of this file" link on the pre-existing file's page.
  • A file is uploaded and then never actually used.

This aspect of maintenance has been singled out for elaboration here because unused files tend to accumulate over time. They can be perused on Special:UnusedFiles. There have never been many people addressing this (i.e., one or two editors), but over time it has become more or less untenable for these editors to catch up in the near future.

If you would like to assist the wiki with unused files, you can do one of the following:

  • If a file is an old duplicate of a newer version on a different page, the two file pages need to be "merged" to combine and preserve the file histories of both. Only an admin can actually merge pages, but an alternative is to link to the old file page from the new file page. Putting something like "Older version: " in the description of the new file page should suffice here. An alternative is to use Template:Merge to tag the offending file.
    • The most common kinds of files that get uploaded are images of characters and evidence. In the case of evidence, there may be a page for the evidence where the newest version of the evidence image is being used. In the case of characters, most characters have an image gallery and a sprite gallery, accessible at the top of characters' pages in the form of tabs. Look at what character(s) is/are contained in the image, and check each character's image/sprite gallery to see if there's a duplicate.
  • If you can find an obvious place for a file to go, please do that.
  • If neither of the above is the case, delete (if admin) or mark for speedy deletion using Unlikely to be used.

Categorization[]

A related problem is that files are often not categorized when people upload them. Uncategorized files can be found in Special:UncategorizedFiles. Images containing characters should be categorized according to what characters are being shown (e.g. ); sprite/model animations should be put in Category:Character sprites; and evidence should be put in Category:Evidence images. The image should also be categorized into its respective episode category, but only if it is unique to said episode (e.g., Media:Phoenix Objection.gif does not have an episode category, as it appears in multiple episodes). More information on how to structure image descriptions can be found on Special:Upload or MediaWiki:Uploadtext.

Whitespace[]

Various images and official artwork on this wiki contain whitespace, which now look a little off due to the themed wiki background. If you can remove the whitespace in an image by adding transparency channels, please do so by uploading a newer version, rather than uploading a brand-new image.

JPG to PNG[]

Images of the JPG/JPEG format have a lossy compression, that is, the image suffers a loss in quality and information each time it's saved. JPG also does not allow the adding of alpha channels (transparency), which conflicts with the previously-mentioned whitespace issue. Although there are images on the wiki that are fine to be in the JPG (or even GIF) format (such as in-game cutscene images or stills), others would be better suited to PNG (such as official art). A good general rule is that if the image is going to be prominently visible (i.e., as the image in a character infobox), then PNG would probably be better. If you find such JPG images, please convert them into PNG by uploading a new version with the same image description as the old one, and then replacing the contents of the previous image with delete.

Japanese version images[]

Images from the Japanese versions of games should be replaced with their English counterparts where appropriate. Many of the images in Apollo Justice: Ace Attorney and Ace Attorney Investigations: Miles Edgeworth, as seen in the image archives of Court Records, are from Japanese versions of the games. This means that editors who seek to replace the images will probably have to retake the images themselves.

Official & concept art[]

There are quite a few characters that are missing concept art (mainly SoJ characters) and good quality official art. Getting these would put these pages on par with other pages.

Episode articles[]

Many of the episode articles need to be expanded and/or cleaned up. Completion figures are rough estimates based on the proportion of chapters accounted for.

Many episode articles are also lacking in appropriate images.

Please see completed articles, such as Turnabout Sisters, for reference.

Transcripts[]

Transcription of the games' text is also in progress. Suggestions for improving the prototype (The First Turnabout - Transcript) are welcomed (particularly from someone with HTML knowledge). Creating a transcript itself is a difficult and time-consuming task, so think carefully before committing to one.

The following articles do not have completed transcripts:

Image galleries[]

Although many case articles have transcripts of some sort, many do not have image galleries. Image galleries can be a useful resource for displaying images from older versions of games, "evidence" images that do not appear in the court record/organizer, and non-English versions of images.

Characters[]

Many character articles (particularly characters in Gyakuten Kenji 2, Professor Layton vs. Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney, The Great Ace Attorney: Adventures, The Great Ace Attorney 2: Resolve, Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney - Dual Destinies, and Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney - Spirit of Justice) need to be expanded.

Please remember to categorize character pages and use Template:Character to create an InfoBox at the top of the page. Categories should be written as: "" (characters with, as yet, only Japanese names should instead be written as "").

Characters should be categorized into "Characters" as well as any other character subcategory that is relevant, as well as for the games in which they appear.

The categories themselves should be ordered in the following manner: Characters, Birth decade, Gender, Occupations, "Situational" and gameplay-centric categories (defendants, villains, partners, etc.), Appearances (firstly by main series Ace Attorney games in release order, then Investigations duology, The Great Ace Attorney duology, Professor Layton vs. Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney, Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3, and then other appearances (manga, musicals, etc.). Other than appearances, all other categories should arranged in in alphabetical order.

Please note that for the Deceased characters and Police officers categories, if a subcategory of those categories is used, the category itself shouldn't be added (e.g. since Cindy Stone is a "Victim", the "Deceased characters" category shouldn't be added as well).

The following articles have no biography, or very little description:

Many other character articles are stubs and can be found here.

Please see completed articles, such as Maya Fey, for reference.

Evidence and profile lists[]

Lists of evidence and profiles as they appear in the court record or organizer are in progress. See List of Evidence in Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney and List of Profiles in Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney: Trials and Tribulations for reference.

  • Evidence lists
  • Court record profile lists

Games & other media[]

Crossover games[]

  • Minna to Capcom All-Stars - a social card battle RPG flash game that featured Phoenix Wright as one of its characters
  • Onimusha Soul - a social strategy RPG for online browsers and smartphones (needs attention from someone who has played the game)
  • LINE Rangers - a mobile tower defense game that featured Phoenix Wright, Miles Edgeworth, Maya Fey, and Godot as limited edition characters; trailer
  • TEPPEN - a mobile collectible card game that has a card pack expansion titled "Ace vs. The People", which is Ace Attorney-themed; trailer

Miscellaneous games[]

The following minor games have very little information on them:

Remakes[]

Any changes (e.g., typo and error corrections) made to the iOS port or the Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney Trilogy HD remake could be noted in suitable places (such as case articles).

Other media[]

Articles on AA media other than the main franchise games is lacking. The following require more information on them:

  • The film adaptation (requires a clean-up and checking for accuracy)
  • The drama CD (plot synopsis required)
  • The musicals (relatively little information)
  • The manga (only a couple of proper articles on two cases in one manga adaptation currently, with the latter requiring a clean-up)
  • There are a number of Ace Attorney stage plays, with only the first (Gyakuten Saiban - Turnabout Spotlight) having an article at the moment (albeit with very little information). It appears there is also an adaptation of Farewell, My Turnabout, the Investigations-inspired Turnabout Teleportation, and a play called Turnabout GOLD MEDAL. There are English fan translations of Turnabout Spotlight and Turnabout Teleportation on YouTube.

Organization[]

InfoBoxes[]

In general, the "InfoBox" content in many articles may need to be updated to include links to recently-made pages. In particular, many location articles have been made recently and other pages referring to these locations need to have links to them.

We are discussing the design of some of the infobox templates on this wiki. Anyone who's interested can discuss this subject here.

A new InfoBox for real-life individuals has been created and should be used on the appropriate pages (see Shu Takumi).

NavBoxes[]

NavBoxes are a good way to make navigation of the wiki easier. Evidence, character, episode, and music NavBoxes are currently in use and should be added to the end of appropriate pages. If you see a group of pages on the wiki that would benefit from NavBoxes, please do so. Potential NavBoxes could include speech bubbles or voice actors, for example.

Music[]

More AA series music could be uploaded and added in a logical way to the wiki (either by creating pages on the individual track itself like so, or by adding it in a gallery to a suitable page like so.

Places and organizations[]

Many articles about places and organizations need to be expanded.

Please remember to categorize and use Template:Place (for both places and organizations). Places should be categorized into Category:Areas, Category:Corporations, Category:Countries, Category:Locations, Category:Organizations, or Category:Unvisited locations as appropriate (the places category page has more information on what each category is for). Places should also be categorized into the games in which they appear (firstly by Ace Attorney games in release order, then Professor Layton vs. Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney, then Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3, then other appearances (manga, musicals, etc.).

Many of the aforementioned articles are stubs and can be found here.

Please see completed articles, such as Fey clan, for reference.

Voice cast[]

The voice cast article needs to be completed, especially for more recently-released games and other media. When adding VAs, please try to back it up with a source. It should be noted that working out the voice cast for Ace Attorney game can often be tricky due to VAs not being credited in game credits.
