This article is about the piece of evidence in The Adventure of the Clouded Kokoro. For a similarly-named piece of evidence in Turnabout for the Ages, see Bouquet.

An anniversary bouquet was evidence in the trial of Soseki Natsume for the stabbing of Olive Green. The "bouquet" was a single rose wrapped in an old newspaper, bought by Roly Beate using what little money he had to give to his wife Patricia.

Location of the crime[]

Main article: The Adventure of the Clouded Kokoro

The Beates were the main witnesses to the incident. They were walking on Briar Road when they saw Natsume and Green nearby. The latter suddenly collapsed and the former fled, causing Patricia to drop the rose in shock. Roly realised that the incident had occurred on his beat, meaning that he would have to cancel their anniversary plans for the sake of the investigation. In order to avoid this, Roly had Patricia call the officer in charge of the beat on the other side of the road, and then moved the crime scene across the road, ensuring that the book in Green's hand was still there. However, he missed the flower in the darkness.

When Patricia returned, she found the rose, but was confused because Green was not nearby. She then heard Roly calling her from across the road, and forgot about the rose. It was not found until the following morning, and Natsume would be arrested two days later. Prosecutor Barok van Zieks took it with him to court for Natsume's trial.

Eventually, the Beates were called to the stand to testify about the incident. It was only after Roly mentioned Patricia getting lost that the latter remembered the rose, the reason she had gotten confused. Roly immediately realised that this could potentially give away what he had done, especially since he had not mentioned it in his testimony, but it was too late, and van Zieks submitted the rose into evidence. Natsume's lawyer, Ryunosuke Naruhodo, used the rose and the book in Green's hand to figure out what Roly had done.
