Azea is a female Asian elephant who is part of the Berry Big Circus. She was used in the circus's stage show that visited the local prison when Bronco Knight was murdered.

The "love triangle"[]

Main article: The Captive Turnabout

Two years after the resolution of the Russell Berry murder case, Azea, Regent, and Simeon Saint got a regular performing gig at the local prison yard. The plot of said show consisted of a romantic tale about the forbidden love between an elephant and a tiger, with a mischievous monkey also being involved to form a love triangle. However, because the circus's monkey was much smaller than his co-stars, Saint took on the role instead.

On the day before one of the shows, Regina Berry placed a cart full of apples near the door to the circuit breaker room located in the yard, just out of reach so that Azea wouldn't eat them before the show. What she did not know, however, was that warden Fifi Laguarde would regularly have Frank Sahwit shut off the breakers at night to disable the electrified fence separating the yard from the warden's office. This would allowed her to smuggle goods to Bodhidharma Kanis, who was blackmailing her into doing so. On this particular night, Sahwit moved the crate within Azea's reach.

The final trick in the show initially required Saint to be literally blown away by Azea's trunk in order to break up the "love triangle", although he managed to find an alternative method via a device he set up himself. During the show, he used this trick to pass behind a high curtain and make his exit, thereby giving him fifteen minutes without an alibi. When Bronco Knight was found dead in one of the prison's workshops, Verity Gavèlle used this fifteen minute gap to argue that Saint could have killed Knight during this time.

During Miles Edgeworth's subsequent investigation, he noticed the crate of apples in Little Thief's re-enactment of the scene during the show. Berry recalled that the apples had actually gone missing beforehand. Edgeworth deduced that someone must have moved the crate in order to open the door to the circuit breakers. This information ultimately led to Edgworth uncovering Laguarde as the true culprit behind Knight's death.
