Bardly
Oh, what have we here? A man and a lad!
Like two lost sheep,
It makes me so sad... ♪

Bardly was a minstrel living in Labyrinthia who was beginning to face competition from a rival bard called Birdly.

Strange visitors

Main article: Mysterious Labyrinthia

Bardly was one of the first individuals met by Hershel Layton and Luke Triton when they arrived in Labyrinthia. Upon meeting them, he sang about them being lost sheep and gave them a map of the town. However, said map was in pieces, prompting Layton to take on the challenge of solving how the parts fit back together in order to complete the map again. Overjoyed with the map's restoration, Bardly told the pair a bit about the town and gave a hint about the Storyteller's parade that was about to happen. He then hurried off to North Parade Avenue so as to watch the parade and receive the new story that was due to be handed out.

Rivalry and a search for inspiration

Main article: The Great Witch

When Birdly made his debut as a minstrel, Bardly considered him a strong rival that could not be beaten, and thus fell into despair. He was eventually found by Triton and Maya Fey, who were searching for Espella Cantabella's pet cat, Eve. He revealed his worries about being replaced by Birdly and told the pair that he needed some colorful inspiration. After solving a puzzle about stained glass, Triton and Fey soon cheered Birdly up, and told him that they would love to hear his music. In return, the minstrel sang that he saw Eve running towards the main street.

One-upmanship

Main article: A Taste of Despair

Despite the brief ego boost he received from Trition and Fey, Bardly once again became despondent, as Birdly's popularity continued to grow. He retreated to Rouge's tavern, where he met Triton and Phoenix Wright, and poured out his grief once again. Bardly concluded that if he could get two parrots, as opposed to the single parrot that Birdly had, then people would listen to his songs again. In the process of solving a parrot-based puzzle, Triton and Wright showed many birds to Bardly so that he could choose. However, the minstrel instead found himself unable to pick just two, and instead wanted all of the parrots to sing with him.
