A broken prop sword was a piece of evidence in Miles Edgeworth's investigation into the murder of Colin Devorae.
Lance's kidnapping and Devorae's murder[]

The sword was a prop in the haunted house of the Gatewater Land theme park. It had a large hand guard attached to the hilt, making it impossible for someone in a Badger costume to wield it double-handed.
The sword was involved in a fake plot to kidnap Lance Amano and have Miles Edgeworth deliver a ransom payment. While he was leaving the haunted house, the left-handed Amano used the sword to knock him out and abduct him, using his right hand to give the impression that the right-handed Devorae had attacked him. Amano used the sword later to jam the door to the Kidnappers' hideout and reinforce the impression that he had miraculously escaped from his kidnappers. The police tried to force their way in, not knowing that the door wasn't locked. Eventually, they succeeded in opening the door, breaking the sword in the process.
Edgeworth eventually figured out that Amano was in on the "kidnapping" all along, pointing out that he could have escaped at any time due to the door being unlocked and the sword being on his side. Later on, while examining a Little Thief simulation of the haunted house assault, he used a luminol test on the sword, which revealed a dab of blood on the left side, proving that the culprit had struck him with his right hand. However, the Bad Badger costume that Devorae was wearing had a prop gun on its right hand, making it impossible for him to have been the assailant.
