A supplementary trial refers to a highly unusual situation in which the resolution of a case by trial is followed by an additional hearing litigating a related case. In most cases, this refers to a background case, though Turnabout for Tomorrow features the reverse situation where the background case is the "main" case. Supplementary trials are not full trials by the definition of the trial category, but are separated out for organizational purposes. The name of this category comes from the extra hearing on the identity of the Reaper of the Bailey in The Resolve of Ryunosuke Naruhodo being referred to as a "supplementary hearing".
