Miles Edgeworth
I'm deeply sorry, but I can't allow you to persuade me to stop. Your Honor. If you could please read the contents of this note aloud.

A suicide note allegedly written by Celeste Inpax was a piece of evidence in Phoenix Wright's investigation into the murder of Juan Corrida.

Contents[]

The letter was a record of Inpax's relationship with Matt Engarde and later Juan Corrida. It described how Engarde had used her and thrown her away, and then destroyed her engagement to Corrida.

Exposed?[]

Main article: Farewell, My Turnabout

The letter was actually a forgery by Corrida, who wrote the letter after discovering Inpax's body to pin the blame for the end of the engagement entirely on Engarde. In reality, Corrida had broken off the marriage after finding out about Inpax's past relationship with his rival. Intending to weaponize this fake suicide note, he hid it inside a teddy bear jewel box figurine, a gift from Adrian Andrews, Inpax's student. The police later found the body and, based on traces of ink on Inpax's hands, conjectured that a suicide note existed and that Corrida had stolen it. Hearing about this, Andrews became close to Corrida to find the note and destroy it to preserve Inpax's dignity.

Two years later, at the Hero of Heroes Grand Prix, Corrida planned to hold a press conference after the main event. Disguising himself as Engarde using a costume of his character, the Nickel Samurai, Corrida would reveal the suicide note and "confess" to the misdeeds described therein. Engarde, however, had spied on Corrida and found out about the note, so he hired an assassin, Shelly de Killer, to kill Corrida and retrieve the figurine. Andrews discovered the body and searched for the note, to no avail. She decided to alter the crime scene to frame Engarde, leading to his arrest, and de Killer blackmailed Wright into taking Engarde's case. Wright eventually told the prosecutor, Miles Edgeworth, about his situation, leading to a police chase to catch de Killer while the trial proceeded.

The bear was found in Engarde Mansion and was opened by Andrews in court to reveal the note. In desperation, and despite the gallery's vocal disgust, Wright suggested that the note was a forgery written by Andrews. Edgeworth agreed to a handwriting analysis, buying precious time while Dick Gumshoe delivered evidence that de Killer had dropped. To everyone's shock, it turned out that the note really had been forged, but by Corrida.

With the foundation of the prosecution's case unexpectedly invalidated, and with no way to know whether or not Engarde's spying had alerted him to this fact all along, Edgeworth accepted de Killer's offer to testify remotely on the identity of his client. However, the assassin claimed that Andrews was responsible. Wright pointed out flaws in de Killer's testimonies about his supposed dealings with Andrews, including the fact that Andrews could not have received the bear figurine from him because she would have immediately disposed of the suicide note. De Killer caught on to Wright's stalling tactics and angrily ceased communications.

In other media[]

In the episode "Farewell, My Turnabout - 3rd Trial" of the anime adaptation, the note is genuine rather than being a forgery by Corrida.
