A chessboard was a piece of evidence in Miles Edgeworth's investigation into the murder of Horace Knightley. It later reappeared during the investigation into the murder of Di-Jun Huang as one of Knightley's mementos.
Knightley's murder Edit
- Main article: The Imprisoned Turnabout
Prior to Knightley's murder, Simon Keyes had a chisel hidden inside the chessboard in order to make Patricia Roland kill Knightley out of pure fear, as Sirhan Dogen, an assassin who had been threatening Roland and had gained a number of chisels at the prison, claimed that he had henchmen outside the prison. As Keyes expected, Roland searched the chessboard and found the chisel in it, causing her to murder Knightley out of pure fear.
Later on, Edgeworth found the chessboard beside Knightley's body. He later showed it to Keyes, who confirmed it was Knightley's and he had brought it for him. Later, he used it against Sebastian Debeste to prove that, because Keyes had brought the chessboard to the victim, his fingerprints would naturally be on it. Later on, after the chisel with Knightley's fingerprints was found, Edgeworth deduced that the chisel had been smuggled in using the chessboard. He later used it to show that warden Roland had been too knowledgeable about the chisel in it. After Warden Roland's arrest, he showed it to Keyes to prove that Knightley had truly trusted him.
