A chisel was a piece of evidence in Miles Edgeworth's investigation into the murder of Horace Knightley.

Knightley's murder[]

Main article: The Imprisoned Turnabout

Prior to Knightley's murder, Simon Keyes planted the chisel in Knightley's pocket chessboard in order to make Patricia Roland kill Knightley. As expected, Roland searched the chessboard and found the chisel, causing her to stab Knightley with Sirhan Dogen's knife. She then removed the knife, untied the bell on it, tied it to the chisel, and then stabbed it into the exact same spot on Knightley's neck. Afterwards, she had his body transported through the well and sent to Dogen. Upon hearing the bell, Dogen assumed it was his knife, but discovered that it was the chisel. He then had his dog, Anubis, hide the chisel in his mouth.

Edgeworth eventually figured out where the chisel had been hidden. A test proved that there was blood on it. Later, however, it was revealed to be a fake murder weapon that had blood planted on it to make it seem like the real one in order to put suspicion on Dogen.

Roland's trial[]

Main article: The Grand Turnabout

Some time after Roland's arrest, the chisel was given to Blaise Debeste by his son Sebastian. Wanting to protect Roland, Blaise disposed of the chisel and knife. Although the chisel would not be found, the bell tied to it was found by Sebastian. Although the bell was useless by itself, Edgeworth and Sebastian later used the newspaper wrapped around it to prove that Blaise had thrown the evidence away.
