A dog-shaped chess piece was a piece of evidence in Miles Edgeworth's investigation into the murder of Bronco Knight.
Knight's murder[]
Prior to Knight's murder, Bodhidharma Kanis carved the dog piece due to playing chess through the mail and thinking about Helmut, his dog, and wondering why hounds weren't in the game.
Later, Edgeworth found the dog piece in Kanis's maximum security cell. He later used it to deduce from Chess Diagram that Kanis and Knight were playing against each other.
Note[]
The game position depicted on the memo is identical to one reached by an exhibition match from 2002.[1] That match ends with White resigning after 68 moves. Knight, who plays White, was killed after this position was reached.
