Ernest Amano was the owner of the Amano Group and father of the kidnapped Lance Amano.

The kidnapping

Ernest Amano contacted Miles Edgeworth because of the kidnapped of Lance Amano.He gave Edgeworth the ransom money,1 million dollars.However,after Edgeworth gave the ransom money to the kidnappers,the kidnappers didn't release Lance Amano.Ernest Amano was also concerned why his butler,Oliver Deacon,hasn't been in contact with him.Ernest Amano found out that Oliver Deacon is the victim of a murder case.He also showed Edgeworth a "love letter,which helped Edgeworth later.Some time later after Edgeworth accused Lance Amano into murdering "Oliver Deacon,Ernest showed up.Along with him was evidence which Lance thinks will convince Edgeworth into thinking Lance isn't the killer.However after examining the evidence,Edgeowrth finally figured out the crime scene:the haunted house.Just before Edgeworth heads out to the haunted house,Ernest stopped him becuase Ernest bought the deed to the haunted house.Nevertheless,with the help of Little Thief,Edgeworth finally proved Lance Amano is the killer.Just before Shi-Long Lang arrested Lance,he reveals why is was at Gatewater Park the first place:to "see Ernest Amano.It was revealed that Ernest had tampered with the evidence,giving a good reason for Agent Lang to arrest the Amanos.Right at that moment,Jacques Portsman arrives wth his partner,Buddy Faith,stops Lang.

• "Amanogawa" is the Japanese word for the "Milky Way".

• His English surname is a shortened version of his Japanese one.

• His full English name may also be a play on "earnest man", which is hardly fitting for such a corrupt character.
