A wooden bear-shaped figurine was a piece of evidence in Phoenix Wright's investigation into the murder of Juan Corrida.

Jewel box[]

The figurine was actually a jewel box that Adrian Andrews bought in Switzerland. She gifted it to Juan Corrida, whom she knew from his relationship to her mentor, Celeste Inpax. It was a puzzle designed to be taken apart piece by piece, first by turning its tail to the right and pushing it in, and then removing its limbs. This reveals a small compartment with enough room to fit a small item. Only Andrews and Corrida knew how to open it.

The suicide note[]

Corrida was the first to discover Inpax's body after she committed suicide. He forged a suicide note and hid it inside the figurine in order to weaponize it against his rival, Matt Engarde. However, Engarde spied on Corrida and discovered the figurine. He hired an assassin, Shelly de Killer, to kill Corrida and retrieve the bear, which was inside a suitcase. Will Powers saw de Killer, disguised as a bellboy, handing the figurine over to someone dressed up as the Nickel Samurai in Engarde's hotel room, while Engarde gave him a large sum of money. This would become key testimony after Engarde was arrested and placed on trial for the murder.

De Killer hid the figurine in Engarde Mansion, and kidnapped Maya Fey to force Phoenix Wright to take Engarde's case. Fey tried to escape, and saw the figurine on a sofa in the private lounge before being caught. Later, Wright and Prosecutor Miles Edgeworth raided the mansion and found the figurine. Wright would present the figurine to Powers to confirm that it was the item that de Killer had handed over to the Nickel Samurai. To clinch the prosecution's case once and for all, Edgeworth had Andrews testify about the figurine and open it to reveal the suicide note. However, Wright accused Andrews of forging the note, knowing that only she and Corrida could have hidden it inside the figurine. Edgeworth agreed to a handwriting analysis, which showed that Corrida had forged the note.

In other media[]

The anime adaptation changes some details about the figurine. Opening it involves pressing its back like a button. Celeste, who in this adaptation is Adrian's sister, is the one who buys the figurine and gives it to Corrida.
