In reality, the Tenma Taro was nothing more than a gold ingot which the original founders of Tenma Town and Nine-Tails Vale had been fighting over, which was why it had been sealed away in the Chamber. The assistant to Mayor Damian Tenma, Florent L'Belle, gained knowledge of this and conspired to get his hands on the ingot, due to his extravagant habit of spending much more money than he actually had access to. This culminated in his murder of the Alderman of Nine-Tails Vale, Rex Kyubi, and subsequent attempt to pin it on his own employer. However, one very determined Apollo Justice managed to find a hole in L'Belle's alibi, and L'Belle was subsequently dragged into court to testify on the witness stand, as he had been refusing to do so before. A number of cross examinations by Justice revealed more holes, and when he was finally cornered, L'Belle broke down on the stand and confessed to the murder, if in a rather indirect manner (while cursing Justice, he screamed, "I'm going to exterminate you, just like I did the aldermaaaaaaaan!"). The case was subsequently closed.
