Karuma was evidence in the trial of Barok van Zieks for the murder of Tobias Gregson. It was the blade passed down through the Asogi family, and that Ryunosuke Naruhodo happened to inherit following Kazuma Asogi's apparent demise.
Over the course of its long history, the Great Sword Karuma had been at some point, fitted with an hidden space within its hilt, meant to be used to secretly store important objects, such as documents. Furthermore, while it had been preserved for many generations in nearly pristine conditions, the tip of the blade was eventually broken off, when it was struck with excessive force in fit of rage, against a leather-clad metal trunk.
Legacy[]
In the Japanese version of The Great Ace Attorney 2: Resolve, it is revealed that the name "Von Karma", in Japanese, "狩魔 (Karuma)", stems from the fact one or more disciples of the Asogi school of swordsmanship took on this surname to honor the Asogi family heirloom, a Japanese katana named "狩魔 (Karuma)". The name of the sword can be interpreted to mean "demon hunter", or "(one who) hunts monsters" (魔を狩るもの).
The name change is mentioned in the English version, though due to the localization of "von Karma" in most language versions of the rest of the Ace Attorney series, the connection is not made as apparent.
