Gyakuten Saiban: VR20-gou Jiken (逆転裁判 VR20号事件; lit. "Turnabout Trial: The VR-20 Incident") is a virtual reality entertainment attraction by Dynamo Pictures. The player plays as a technician subordinate to Ema Skye who investigates the crime scene and gathers evidence to help Phoenix Wright win the trial. The story is set after the events of Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney - Spirit of Justice.[1] The game runs on Oculus Quest 2 and is about 25 minutes long.[1]

Story[]

Following the events of Spirit of Justice, Ema has been recognized for her forensic talent, and has become the head of her own forensic investigation team. She has been assigned to investigate the murder of office worker Hiyori Otonashi, of which the victim's younger sister, Kotoha, seems to be the only suspect. Feeling sympathetic towards Kotoha's situation, Ema decides to ask Phoenix to defend her in court, and assigns her forensic team to search the crime scene for any evidence while the trial occurs.

Characters[]

  • Ema Skye - The protagonist of the game and the leader of Team Skye. Investigates the case as the trial proceeds.
  • Phoenix Wright - The defence attorney who took the case at Ema's request.
  • Kotoha Otonashi (音無 琴葉) - A high school sophomore and the case's defendant. Being very shy, she doesn't have many friends, and tends to immerse herself in her art.
  • Hiyori Otonashi (音無 陽和) - An office worker, Kotoha's older sister and the case's victim. She has been looking after Kotoha ever since their mother committed suicide ten years ago.
  • Kanwa Ikesu (池須 寛和) - A handsome, tech savvy man who worked alongside Hiyori at her company. He is equipped with many gadgets in his backpack, including a robotic arm that takes self pictures of him.
  • Keiji Kiyowai (清和井 圭次) - A rookie police officer and witness. He is incredibly nervous, to the point where he carries an IV drip around with him to keep himself calm.
  • Tenkai Ubusuna (宇武砂 典界) - A foreign prosecutor who claims to have achieved enlightenment after training in Tibet. He looks very familiar..
  • Unnamed technician(s) - Members of Team Skye, investigating the crime scene under Ema's instruction.

Gameplay[]

The game takes place within the room where Hiyori Otonashi was murdered. The players can freely move about the room to find evidence. Using the VR headset's controllers, the players are armed with 'scientific investigation guns' which fire lasers to scan evidence. The players must find evidence and scan it fully to enable it to be sent to Phoenix at the trial. Each gun uses energy, which must be recharged periodically. The guns can also fire Snackoos and classic Ace Attorney emotes such as Objection!. As time goes by, small spider-like robots will invade the crime scene, attempting to destroy evidence. The players can hold the robots at bay by shooting them with the lasers. During the investigation, a pop-up window will show Phoenix as he defends Kotoha at the trial. He will uncover more answers and witnesses as more evidence is found. At the end of the game, Edgeworth will rank the player based on how well they did.

Development[]
