Jacques Portsman was a prosecutor prodigy who was in charge of the investigation into a murder that occurred in the High Prosecutor's Office.

Portsman worked with the smuggling ring under Quercus Alba. He and his partner Buddy Faith took Ernest Amano away from Shi-Long Lang as he was about to arrest him.

A few days later, Portsman tried to rob Miles Edgeworth's office, and Faith caught him in the act. Portsman and Faith struggled, and Portsman grabbed Faith's revolver, and shot him in his abdomen. Edgeworth found out about the murder, and Portsman was arrested.

Later, in Turnabout Ablaze, Edgeworth discovered that Portsman was also part of Alba's smuggling ring. He was placed at the prosecutor's office to handle all the cases about the KG-8 Incident, so that he could control the investigation and hide evidence that was pointing to Alba.

Personality

Portsman was a great fan of sports, spending hours training in his office. In fact, he seemed to spend far more time working out physically than studying his law books. His love of sport permeated almost everything he did, from having officers "pass" him evidence to dragging a basketball hoop outside his door for practice.

The investigation

Jacques Portsman was first seen when he barged into Miles Edgeworth's office.(Although he was first seen in the intro of the game,Ace Attorney Investigations: Miles Edgeworth, killing his partner Buddy Faith.)Edgeworth recongized him as a prosecutor. Before the investigation continues,Portsman was lying next to the body, giving his final farewells, forcing Edgeworth to investigate his secret safe. When finding a bunch of files was Gumshoe's name on it upside-down,Portsman was convinced that Gumshoe is the killer.Portsman said that Gumshoe simply didn't notice the bloody files. However,Edgeworth pointed out that one of the files was stolen so even Gumshoe will notice the bloody letters if he is stealing a file. Portsman said she has a master key so she went into the office, framed Gumshoe and stole what she needed. Edgeworth however said the secret safe was said to be open and only prosecutors know about it. Portsman said the investigation must continue with only one condidtion:requesting that Edgeworth,Gumshoe and Maggey leave the office and stay in the hallway.

Miles Edgeworth vs. Jacques Portsman

After Edgeworth found a number of clues that pointed out Jacques Portsman was the killer,he barged into the office.Edgeworth accused Portsman for murder so Portsman simply said he was in his room all the time. However,Edgeworth showed a note sent by the victim, indicting that Portsman wasn't in his room. Portsman explained why only his and the victim's fingerprints were on the doorknob because he "wiped the doorknob after Bryde left".Portsman also said he has an alibi:he was at Criminal Affairs.Edgeworth couldn't attack his alibi. However, when Edgeworth asked Portsman why he was at Criminal Affairs,he said that he had two pieces of evidence from yesterday's case he needed to store.Edgeworth discovers that Portsman was lying because of the note and told Portsman he fails as a prosecutor because he was hiding a piece of evidence:a video tape of footage of the KG-8 Incident. It has blood on it and Edgeworth deduced that the blood must be the victim's.Edgeworth also revealed there were two thieves at two different times. Jacques Portsman was at the office, robbing Edgeworth. The victim came into the office which led to his death. The second thief stole the file and encountered Edgeworth then left. Jacques Portsman was completely cornered by Edgeworth so he munched on his gold medal and swallowed it. After the police arrested the "good prosecutor",Edgeworth still wondered who stole the file.Just then,a police officer came up to Edgeworth, showing him a card with the mark of the Great Thief Yatagarasu.

The KG-8 Incident

Tyrell Badd handed Edgeworth illegal evidence. The video tape was one of the two illegal evidence. Edgeworth recognizes it as the same video tape Jacques Portsman was hiding. Portsman was really a member of the smuggling ring who dimissed case related to the summgling ring or the ringleader as a prosecutor. The contents of the tape contains proof Manny Coachen and Cohdopia are related to the KG-8 Incident and the smuggling ring. Badd also mentioned that when Ernest Amano was arrested, he forced Ernest to cough uup the information on where the missing video tape from 10 years ago is.

Name

  • In Japanese "Makoto" means "truth" and "Yuuki" means "courage".
  • His English name "Jacques Portsman", is probably a corruption of "jock sportsman".
