Although born in [[London]], Luke Triton lived much of his early life in the small town of Misthallery. He came to know of Layton through his father, Clark, who was a close friend of the professor. When a mysterious specter began attacking the town, Luke, fearing that the specter's influence was distancing him from his father, wrote to Layton (under Clark's name) asking him for help in solving the mystery. Luke accompanied Layton throughout his investigation of Misthallery and eventually helped him solve the mystery of the "specter". Feeling he could learn from Layton, Luke asked if he could be his apprentice, which the professor accepted.

I'm Luke Triton. My occupation is... the professor's apprentice!

Luke Triton is the self-proclaimed apprentice of Professor Layton and follows him everywhere to assist him on his investigations.

Early life

For a more detailed account, see the Professor Layton wiki.

When a mysterious specter began attacking the town, Luke, fearing that the specter's influence was distancing him from his father, wrote to Layton (under Clark's name) asking him for help in solving the mystery. Personality

Triton is an eager and inquisitive assistant to Layton, even cleaning up for his mentor when the professor's cleaning lady isn't around. He is known for eating voraciously, with sweet foods being a particular favorite, and his preferred tea blend is Oasis Berry. Triton has been shown to be proficient at climbing (at one point scaling a giant robot) and has the ability to speak with animals. He is also learning to play the violin. Triton likes to carry around a stuffed bear in his trunk, with another at home which he claims to be his "best friend".

Name

"Triton" may have been chosen in reference to Neptune's moon Triton. If so, then Layton's given name "Hershel", may have been chosen for John Herschel, an English astronomer who wrote to William Lassell after Neptune's discovery to suggest that he search for possible moons. Lassell did so and discovered Triton. If so, this would link both Triton and Layton's names.
