A mock trial script was a piece of evidence in Athena Cykes's investigation into the murder of Constance Courte.
Purpose[]
The script was for a mock trial that took place during an annual festival at Themis Legal Academy. The trial featured Hugh O'Conner as the defense attorney, Robin Newman as the prosecutor, Constance Courte as the victim, and Juniper Woods as both the judge and the defendant. The script only provided an outline of the case, and the attorneys had to improvise their arguments in an attempt to win the trial.
Script summary[]
"Facts About the Case"[]
- A body with a protruding arrow was found in the quad.
- But the murder weapon was an awl. The arrow was inserted as a ruse.
- The actual murder scene was the art room, where traces of blood were found on the floor.
"How the Body was Moved"[]
- The body was dropped from the third floor art room to the maintenance area below. A mat was laid out to cushion the fall.
- A ball cart from the storehouse was then used to move the body to the stage.
"Why the Body was Moved"[]
- The Archery Club's room has a good view of the quad. The body was moved to the quad to make it look like an Archery Club member had shot the victim with an arrow.
"Things to Prepare"[]
- Awl: Buy with school festival funds. (Get from hardware store.)
- Arrow: If I borrow one from the Archery Club, it could give away part of the script's plot. (TBD)
- Sweat suit: Victim's outfit will be a red one from the prosecutor course.
"Mock mock trial" reenactment version[]
The following is a recounting of the mock trial as played out by Apollo Justice, Athena Cykes, and Klavier Gavin to help with Cykes's investigation. Though they mostly reenacted the original mock trial presentation, Gavin bolstered the prosecution's argument, saying that he was "the real deal".
Summary of the facts[]
For the opening statement, the prosecutor states that the incident took place at a school. The victim was a female professor and the defendant was a female member of the Archery Club. The victim was discovered in the middle of the quad wearing a sweat shirt. The murder weapon appeared to be an arrow, but there wasn't much blood.
Defense's argument[]
The defendant was to meet the victim in the quad. The defendant claims they found the professor in the arrow in her stomach, but denies killing her. The defense points out that a male student was holding a bow in the Archery Club room at the time of the murder, and argues that he killed her before the planned meeting.
Prosecution's rebuttal[]
The prosecutor argues that the arrow could not have been the actual murder weapon. This is because the autopsy report says the edges of the victim's wound were unusually ragged. As such, the arrow must been placed there after she died. While the true murder weapon was unknown, it was likely the awl left in the art room, which had blood and the defendant's fingerprints on it. Since traces of blood were also found in the art room, the prosecutor believed that was the true crime scene.
How the body was moved[]
Since the body was found in the quad, it had to have been moved from the third floor art room. Just outside the window, there was a maintenance area and a storehouse. There could be found a cart for balls, which was big enough to carry a person. A large high jump mat that was also in the storehouse would prevent signs of massive blunt force trauma.
