The Old Bailey Courtroom is seemingly the only courtroom in the Old Bailey. Ryunosuke Naruhodo defended his clients here during his time in England.
Trials[]
There have been six known trials held in the Old Bailey Courtroom:
- Trial of Magnus McGilded for the murder of Mason Milverton
- Trial of Soseki Natsume for the attempted murder of Olive Green
- Trial of Soseki Natsume for the attempted murder of William Shamspeare
- Trial of Gina Lestrade for the murder of Pop Windibank
- Trial of Albert Harebrayne for the murder of Odie Asman
- Secret trial of Barok van Zieks for the murder of Tobias Gregson
Courtroom layout[]
The courtroom contained two long tables at ground level, a semicircular podium situated between them, an elevated desk opposite the podium with a slightly shorter elevated desk with six seats positioned directly in front of it, which also faced the podium, and two seating areas behind the tables. Stanchions connected by ropes were placed on the ends of the tables and around the back of the courtroom to outline specific areas. A large, movable sculpture depicting the likeness of the Scales of Justice was displayed above the judge's bench.
- The judge's seat was positioned in the elevated desk overlooking the rest of the courtroom. This is where the judge would sit to mediate trials and (in a bench trial) hand down verdicts. Directly behind the judge was a sculpture of the Scales of Justice. Each bowl of the scale was ignited with flames that could be manipulated by the jurors. The right bowl was painted white to represent innocence while the left was painted black to represent guilt. Depending on which side that the jurors may have been leaning on, the scales would adjust to express the general opinion.
- The jurors' desk was positioned directly in front of the judge but was lowered as to not obstruct his view. Six seats for six jurors would be found here and were usually found with red, seemingly velvet, padding that would shift color to black if they deemed the defendant guilty or white if they deemed the defendant innocent. At the righthand side of each juror was a golden sound-block that would ignite in flames when they were prepared to cast their vote.
- The defense bench was the table positioned to the judge's left. It is where the defense team stood during trials.
- The prosecution bench was the table directly facing the defense bench on the other side of the room and to the right of the judge. Prosecutors stood here.
- The witness stand was the podium between the two benches. When giving testimony, witnesses stood here. Defendants also stood here when the verdict is being read, unless they were representing themselves.
- Surrounding the courtroom were gallery seats, which is where the public could have sat during a trial to observe the proceedings. These were positioned above the defense and prosecution benches.
