In order to ensure that Maggey Byrde would be convicted of Elg's murder, Furio Tigre approached her and claimed to be Wright. He was able to convince her of this by claiming that he had gotten a tan, and that the badge had gotten tanned as well. Everyone in the courtroom was similarly fooled.
A month after that, the real Wright appealed Byrde's case and investigated Tender Lender while Tigre was not there. He discovered the blue suit that Tigre had used as his disguise, with the paper badge still on its lapel. Wright pointed out Tigre's brazen gambit to Byrde and the court, jogging the memories of both Byrde and the judge, who immediately recognized Tigre and the paper badge.
