Paul Atishon-Wimperson, or simply Paul Atishon, was a politician running for the position of local assemblyman of Kurain Village, and a witness in one of Apollo Justice's cases, as well as the plaintiff in a civil lawsuit against Dhurke Sahdmadhi. He forced Phoenix Wright to serve as the opposing attorney against Justice, using his political influence and threatening Wright with Maya Fey's safety.

Running for assemblyman

Main article: Turnabout Revolution

During his run for local assemblyman, he received a number of stolen Kurain and Khura'inese artifacts from Inga Karkhuul Khura'in. He gave them to Professor Archie Buff, an archaeologist in the Kurain Village area. However, once Buff caught wind of them being stolen, he refused to return them, forcing Atishon to kill him to retrieve them. He then forced Wright to be his attorney in the ensuing civil trial, using Fey's safety as leverage.

Personality

Atishion is the embodiment of the archetypal "sleazy politician." He is very evasive when questioned, preferring to promote his political campaign or straight up walking away from the witness stand. He has an inflated ego and huge sense of self, calling others peasants, preferring to have others carry him around in his palanquin, and not realizing when locals of Kurain Village want him to be quiet or taking his posters down, instead believing that they cry tears of joy when they see him, or his fangirls are taking them. Atishion is not afraid to flaunt his political power, knowing that a normal person would be unable to fight back against his family's influence.

Underneath it all, Atishion is a very pitiful person. He's not above blackmailing people to work for him, and murdering people because they did not give him something he wants. He panics easily when things don't start to go his way, whimpering and begging for things to go back in his favor.

Name

• Kiyoki (清き) means "proper" or "clean", which is an ironical reference of his personality. The name Masaharu can also be read as seiji (政治), meaning "politics," referring to his profession.
• His English name is a play on the word "politician", while his surname Wimperson is a play of both "wimp" and "whimper", in respective reference of his personality and his breakdown.
• His grandfather's name is an homage to Abraham Lincoln, the sixteenth President of the United States, or Shinzō Abe, the prime minister of Japan as of 2016.

Note

Atishon is one of only four characters in the Ace Attorney games to have a known birth date. The only other characters to have a known birth date are Dustin Prince, an unseen and unnamed relative of one of Shi-Long Lang's subordinates, and Rayfa Padma Khura'in.
