Phineas Filch[1] is the caretaker of Kyubi Manor in Nine-Tails Vale. He claims to be descended from a legendary thief, and frequently engages in pickpocketing. In the credits, he claimed to have been made alderman of Nine-Tails Vale, although this turned out to be false.

Personality

Filch has a tendency to lie and steal objects that he wants or likes, including Apollo's bracelet and Widget. He claims he can't help himself to steal, that the need to steal runs through his veins, because his grandfather was a famous thief.

Name

FilchMugshot

Phineas Filch's mugshot.

  • "Kumabee", his Japanese given name, is a conjunction of the Japanese word for bear, "kuma" (熊), and the English equivalent.
  • His surname refers to the "azukiarai" (小豆洗い), a Japanese yōkai that creates a mysterious noise resembling the sound of azuki beans being washed. "Azuki" was replaced by "zeni", a fictional currency used in Capcom's games.
  • His English surname comes from the word "filch", meaning "to steal".

Notes

  • Filch's appearance and habit of pickpocketing comes from the Tanuki, a raccoon dog from Japanese lore that's said to be mischievous and with a habit of stealing things.
