At the beginning of Naruhodo's trial, Prosecutor Taketsuchi Auchi submitted the photograph into evidence, corroborating the finding in the postmortem report that Wilson had been shot in the chest. The scorch marks around the bullet hole indicated that Wilson had been shot at close range. Naruhodo marvelled at this photograph, as he had never seen one before.

Auchi later called Iyesa Nosa and Kyurio Korekuta to the stand to testify. Nosa claimed that he had seen Naruhodo shoot Wilson in the back, but Naruhodo pointed out that this contradicted the postmortem report and photograph of the victim, forcing him to admit that he had not actually seen the moment of the shooting. Naruhodo was able to demonstrate the presence of another individual at Wilson's table, a woman by the name of Jezaille Brett, who was summoned to the witness stand. She pointed out that the photograph showed Wilson facing away from the table, so the culprit must be Naruhodo and not her. Naruhodo recalled seeing a bloodstain on the plate served to Brett, which would prove that Wilson had been facing Brett when being shot. Inspector Satoru Hosonaga was able to confirm this due to having preserved both steak plates served at the time of the shooting.
