While visiting Borginia, Gavin heard Lamiroir singing. Struck by her beautiful voice, he arranged a meeting with her, and together they wrote "The Guitar's Serenade." Lamiroir gifted Gavin the guitar he played for the song, and Gavin had it vacuum-packed for shipping back to America. Unknown to Gavin, Machi Tobaye slipped a Borginian cocoon into the guitar, along with an igniter, for smuggling to America. When the guitar arrived in America, Daryan Crescend, who was part of the plot to smuggle the cocoon, stole Gavin's key ring to try to retrieve it. However, the vacuum-packing prevented him from doing so.
Instead, he waited for an opportunity during the Gavinners show at the Sunshine Coliseum. Gavin took the stage with the guitar in hand to play "The Guitar's Serenade" along with Lamiroir and Tobaye. However, backstage, Romein LeTouse, Lamiroir's bodyguard, confronted Crescend about the smuggling. Crescend managed to steal LeTouse's revolver and shot him in the shoulder. He then used his headset to contact Tobaye with the order, "It's over! Press the switch! Now!" Unknown to Crescend, Lamiroir was in the ductway above the room and overheard his order. Tobaye pressed the switch, causing the guitar to burst into flames and destroying the cocoon inside. Gavin then complained to the staff about what happened, saying that guitar was "the Ferrari of guitars", though he was somewhat glad when he found out that Trucy Wright and the rest of the audience thought it was part of the act.
Gavin kept the remains of the burnt out guitar, which would later be used to test for cocoon residue to confirm Crescend and Tobaye's smuggling attempt.
