A red raincoat was a piece of evidence in Miles Edgeworth's investigation into the murder of Ethan Rooke. It later reappeared during the investigation into the murder of Jill Crane.

Attempt on Huang's life Edit

Main article: Turnabout Target

During Di-Jun Huang's speech, Shelly de Killer had planned to attempt another assassination on the president. To disguise himself, he wore the raincoat. However, he spotted a second red-hooded figure pointing a laser at the president. Knowing he would be suspected once police arrived to investigate, he hastily removed the raincoat, dropping a button in the process. He then stuffed it underneath the Samurai Dog stand, but was unable to leave the scene due to the sheer amount of people and the police's arrival.

Later on, Edgeworth discovered the raincoat where de Killer had left it. It allowed him to deduce that the assassin had an injured left arm soon after, allowing him and Dick Gumshoe to find and accuse John Doe for the crime. He later used it to prove that the owner of the raincoat was injured. He later handed it, along with the other evidence, to Horace Knightley temporarily, as President Huang meant for the Zheng Fa police to take over the investigation. However, after Edgeworth negotiated with Huang to return the investigative authority to him, Knightley returned it along with the remaining evidence.

The black market auctions Edit

Main article: The Forgotten Turnabout

Sometime between March 26 and April 4, the raincoat was stolen from evidence and hidden in the 51st floor of the Grand Tower. However, on April 4, Blaise Debeste mortally wounded Jill Crane and had Karin Jenson disguise as her by changing into her clothes and wearing a wig. Jenson felt that leaving Crane naked was rather shameful, and so she covered her with the raincoat. However, Crane was actually alive, and so left with the raincoat on her. Upon being found by Debeste and Jenson, the former discarded the raincoat.

The police later found the raincoat in the vicinity of the Grand Tower. Edgeworth used it to prove that something was wrong with the autopsy report, as if the victim had been stabbed with the candelabra first, the raincoat would have three holes in the left chest area, which it didn't.
