It first opened on July 8th, 2016, in Tokyo, and was further opened in different cities across Japan. It's run came to an end in all locations, as of August 11 the same year.
Description[]
Players had to solve themselves, in teams of five or six people, using the clues that they have been provided to progress through the mystery. They would be shown an opening animation which set up the background, characters, and details of the case. Afterwards, players would need to investigate to work out various aspects of the case. Contradictions between testimonies would be presented to a judge, who would overall them, or sustain them. The game was played in real time, giving players an overall time limit of an hour.
The game was presented in a way as to make it accessible to both long-time fans, as well as those who hadn't even heard of Ace Attorney before.[1]
Story[]
From the official website:
- A murder has occurred in the world famous "village where spirit mediums gather". All of the evidence and testimony points to a single suspect. The suspect has even confessed and plans to plead guilty. However there was a sole person who denied the man's guilt: The spirit of the victim, speaking through a master spirit medium. Believing in the single messageâ "That person was not the one who killed me!"âdefense attorney RyĆ«ichi NaruhodĆ (Phoenix Wright) prepares his defense for the suspect, with his assistant, you.
- Is the true culprit someone else in the village? Why is the suspect confessing? There's only an hour left until the trial. Can you create a "turnabout" and get a "not guilty" verdict?[1]
Trivia[]
- In order to maintain the intended experience and realism of the escape game, a tight lid was kept on players leaking spoilers. Those who play the game were required to confirm beforehand that they had not heard any spoilers, and would be asked when leaving to keep spoilers to themselves until the end of the game's run. When leaving Players were also reminded to be careful when discussing their experience among themselves on their way home. Posting any spoilers, or photos, onto social media was also "strictly prohibited".[1]
