Role in Kitaki's trial

Such slippers are provided for patients at the Meraktis Clinic, with Alita Tiala wearing them the night she confronted Pal Meraktis and tried to dispose of Wocky Kitaki's medical report. However, Meraktis knocked her out (although he thought he had killed her) and stole Guy Eldoon's noodle cart to throw her "corpse" in the river, only to be shot and killed by her in People Park. When she got out of the cart, she stepped in paint caused by a car accident Meraktis was involved in, causing one of her slippers to leave behind a shoeprint at the crime scene. Tiala subsequently threw both of the slippers in a trash can at the entrance to People Park near Kitaki Mansion.
During their investigation into Meraktis' murder, Apollo Justice, the attorney Tiala asked to defend Kitaki, and Trucy Wright, Justice's investigatory assistant, found the slippers in the trash can. However, Wright could only carry one object, so they took the mirror that was also in the can instead; they came back for the slippers the following day. When they found Tiala's sandals at the clinic, Ema Skye dusted for prints and discovered that they matched on both pairs of shoes.
During the trial, Justice presented the slippers as proof that Tiala was in the cart and therefore at the crime scene. Justice felt that Tiala's biggest mistake was throwing the slippers away in a place that they could be so easily found. However, Tiala disagreed, stating that she felt her fatal mistake was asking Justice to defend Kitaki, as she had hoped that the rookie attorney from the Wright Anything Agency would lose the trial.
