The St. Bartholomew Hospital, commonly referred to colloquially as Barts, is a hospital in London. Olive Green and William Shamspeare were taken to one of its recovery wards after their injuries. Green had been stabbed in the back, while Shamspeare had been poisoned. Similarly to another Londonese hospital, St. Synner's Hospital, the medical facility is in general disrepair, with even rats being occasionally seen among the patient's beds
Brixton Road, where Green lived, was some ten stops away on the Underground.

The real life St. Bartholomew's Hospital has significance to Sherlock Holmes. It is the medical institution where Dr. Watson studied and graduated, as well as the location where he and Sherlock first meet in the first Sherlock story, A Study in Scarlet. In the 1990s, the Tokyo-based "Sherlock Holmes Appreciation Society" donated to the Save Barts Campaign.
