A ten-year-old Daily Circus article was evidence in the trial of Albert Harebrayne for the murder of Odie Asman. Apparently written by the victim at the time of the Professor case, it was the article that exposed Enoch Drebber as a graverobber.
Beyond that, the article also makes references to several real life events. These include:
- A mad sheep rampage in the Oxfordshire region. This is refered as the Great Sheep Panic.
- Charles Darwin recieving a medal for his contributions to geology, zoology, and botanical physiology. The article takes note of Darwin joining the ranks of Léon Foucault, a French physicist.
- Parliament building an underground sewer to solve the foul stench issue.
- The Royal Italian Opera House, owned by Fredrick Gye, being caught in a fire. Queen Victoria visited him to offer her condolences.
- The 1883 eruption of Krakatoa.
