The unsanctioned December 20, 2027 trial of Athena Cykes orchestrated by Aura Blackquill was extended after Apollo Justice brought forward arguments concerning her alleged responsibility in the murder of Clay Terran. Justice's cross-examination by Phoenix Wright resulted in Bobby Fulbright being subpoenaed on being the one truly responsible for the crime, being the elusive criminal spy known only as the phantom. For this final confrontation, Chief Prosecutor Miles Edgeworth relinquished the prosecutor's bench to the newly exonerated Simon Blackquill and returned to the prosecutor's office to retrieve evidence pertaining to Fulbright and the first people to discover the body of Metis Cykes.
