"Turnabout Memories" is the 37th episode of the Ace Attorney anime and the thirteenth episode of its second season. It is an hour-long special that adapts the story of Turnabout Memories, originally from Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney - Trials and Tribulations.

Synopsis[]

Phoenix Wright is being accused of murdering Doug Swallow, and Mia Fey is the defense attorney, with Marvin Grossberg as the co-counsel.

'Five years ago, long before I became an attorney, I went to the courtroom for a different reason. Back then, I was the accused in a murder case. That when I first met Mia. She was still a rookie attorney at the time, and the two of us faced off a terrifying incident. And there were even bigger shadows looming behind it.'

Plot[]

Differences from the game[]

  • Unlike in the game, Wright has an umbrella when meeting with Swallow in the flashback.
  • Coldkiller X is referred to as "Coldkiller Z", in line with its original Japanese name.
  • Fey asks Wright about his occupation before he was arrested instead of the judge.
  • Grossberg says it took only a few seconds for Hawthorne to wrap everyone around her finger instead of Fey.
  • Case/evidence points omitted from the anime include the Union Jack on Swallow's T-shirt, Swallow's umbrella, Hawthorne's headphones, and the Police Report.
  • Unlike in the game, Diego Armando appears in flashbacks of the incident where he was poisoned.
  • No mention is made of Armando being Fey's boyfriend. He is referred to only as her "colleague".
  • In the game, Hawthorne states 2 teaspoons of the poison is a lethal dose. In the anime, she claims to not know this fact.
  • Hawthorne's breakdown includes her being surrounded by a purple aura. When she vows to meet with Fey again, the butterflies return.
  • The anime features a scene of Fey visiting a comatose Armando in the hospital.

Typos and errors[]

  • In the subtitles it says:
