The United States of America (commonly referred to as the United States, the U.S., the USA, or America) is a country situated mostly in central North America. The USA is one of the member states of Interpol. By 2019, the government had passed the "Federal Firearms Restriction Act", restricting the ownership of guns. This made it impossible to acquire a gun legally outside of law enforcement. By 2026, gun ownership by most people other than cops or members of the mob was considered impossible. In the 19th Century, Nikolina Pavlova ended up in the United States after an incident involving Kazuma Asogi on the SS Burya.
Legal system[]
- Main article: Legal system
The initial trial system used in lower-level U.S. courts consists of fast-paced bench trials lasting no more than three days, with the judge giving the final verdict. The conviction rate in these trials is notoriously high. In 2026, the Jurist System was tested on the trial of Vera Misham for the murder of Drew Misham. As prosecutor Klavier Gavin put it, "The eyes of the nation [were] on this courtroom [that day]." Ultimately, the bench trial system remained in place.
Japanese culture has influenced the design of the sunflower-shaped attorney's badge.
Home of lawyers[]
Los Angeles, California, a city in the U.S., is home to prosecutor Miles Edgeworth, who since 2012 has left a mark as one of the top prosecutors in the country, along with brief stints prosecuting in other countries. Los Angeles is also home to Phoenix Wright, a lawyer notable for his many acquittals in a judicial system with an extremely high conviction rate. His mentor was the late Mia Fey, and he himself is the mentor to defense attorneys Apollo Justice and Athena Cykes (the former operating their own law firm in Khura'in and the latter working for Wright's firm).
The country is also home to some other acclaimed prosecutors, such as Klavier Gavin and Simon Blackquill.
Development[]
The setting of the Ace Attorney story is different depending on the language version. In the English-language translations, the story is set in Los Angeles, and various characters travel to and from Europe, usually Germany. In the original Japanese versions, the events mainly take place in Japan, and the destination of most foreign travel is the U.S.
