The poker hand of "Shadi Smith" was a piece of evidence in Phoenix Wright's trial for Smith's murder.

Shadi's hand

The two poker hands of Smith and Wright were brought in to be examined. Although Wright's hand revealed nothing helpful, Smith's revealed a blue card among the red-backed cards. This caused Olga Orly to slip up and help Kristoph Gavin, Apollo Justice's co-counsel, to identify her as the cheater. Additionally, her claim that she'd put that card in Wright's hand revealed that she had conspired to cheat with the victim. This gave her a motive.

Later during the trial, while Orly was unconscious, Wright pointed out the question of when the blue card was put in the hand. Apollo then deduced it to be after the murder. This meant that whoever swapped it in wasn't Wright, nor Orly, but someone else entirely. After it was also proven that Orly was unconscious at the time of the murder, Wright used the fact that the card that had been swapped for one with a blue back to accuse Gavin, citing both his statement and the black-and-white photo to prove that before the chip photo appeared, only Winston Payne knew the cards had red backs.
