The von Karmas are a German family of which three are known by name: late Prosecutor Manfred von Karma, his prosecuting prodigy daughter Franziska von Karma, and Miles Edgeworth by adoption. Manfred has also mentioned a 7-year old granddaughter,[1] which, if true, presumably means that he had another child other than Franziska. However, no other mention has been made of this granddaughter or hinted offspring other than during Phoenix Wright's confrontation with him in court, which led to an end to his perfect win record. Wright also ended the winning streaks of Franziska and Edgeworth.
In Dai Gyakuten Saiban 2: Naruhodō Ryūnosuke no Kakugo, it is revealed that the name "von Karma" in Japanese, "狩魔 (Karuma)", stems from the fact one or more disciples of the Asōgi school of swordsmanship took on this name to honor the Asōgi family heirloom, a Japanese katana named "狩魔 (Karuma)".
