Knightley's murder and Elbird's escape[edit | edit source]
- Main article: The Imprisoned Turnabout
Two days prior to Knightley's murder, as Knightley was being escorted to his holding cell after visiting Simon Keyes, he and the guard were attacked in the cell and knocked unconscious by Jay Elbird. The assault left a bloodstain on the floor, causing Elbird to wipe it up to prevent investigators discovering the existence of a third person at the time of the incident.
Later, Edgeworth found the wiped floor inside Knightley's holding cell. After assuming that the victim had been killed in the cell due to the security footage, he asked forensics to check for traces of blood. It was later confirmed that the victim's blood had been wiped away. He later used it to prove that the murder had occurred in the detention center. However, it was later used to prove that Elbird had knocked out Knightley. Edgeworth later removed it from his organizer along with the other evidence of Elbird's escape.
