Yūko Onebō was the defendant in one of Gregory Edgeworth and Phoenix Wright's trials, where she was accused of killing Kōta Kitamita both in 2001, and again, in 2016.

Supposed "Time Traveler"

Yūko was an engineering student at Ivy University in 2001. One day she encountered the mysterious Kōta Kitamita. Kitamita claimed that he was a time traveler from the year 2016, and that he had come to the 2001 after fleeing from a criminal who killed his wife. He wanted Yūko's aide in repairing his time machine, to get back to the the year 2016.

After Yūko had been working at Kitamita's lab for several months, Kitamita was assaulted, and Yūko fell unconscious. When she awoke, she found out that Kitamita was dead, and that the room was locked from the inside. She was swiftly arrested by the police outside. Defense attorney Gregory Edgeworth took on Yūko's defense. Despite the effects of the prosecutor Manfred von Karma's corrupted efforts to get in his way, Gregory successfully defends Yūko, however the trial is put on hold after Yūko vanishes off the face of the Earth for 15 whole years, until she makes a appearance at the Wright & Co. Law Offices, claiming to have hopped through time.
