The Yatagarasu pin is a treasured possession of Kay Faraday, which she wears at all times to show off her identity as the great thief Yatagarasu. The pin was hand-made by Faraday herself, according to a conversation between her and Edgeworth while examining the front of Lauren Paups's pendant. Despite not being made of fancy and expensive materials, even Edgeworth had to internally admit that it was an incredibly well-crafted object.
It later became a piece of evidence in Miles Edgeworth's investigation into the murder of Rosie Ringer, during the course of which Edgeworth resigned. He continued to carry the pin during his subsequent investigation into the murder of Di-Jun Wang's body double.
Lost identity[]
On April 4, Simeon Saint called Faraday out to Gourd Lake. This was because he had instigated Rosie Ringer's murder at the Bigg Building and wanted to ensure that Edgeworth investigated the case. To do so, he kidnapped Faraday at Gourd Lake and used his circus balloon to bring her to the roof garden of the Bigg Building. On the way, he planted a bug inside the pin.
Upon arriving at Bigg Building, he received an unexpected surprise: Wang's body double and Verity Gavèlle were meeting on the rooftop. However, the body double noticed him and fired a gun at him. Hastily, Saint turned off the bug and crushed the body double with the balloon. He then dropped off Faraday and took the body double's body to the warehouse, leaving her to stumble around, dazed on the roof, where she shortly after saw the mortally wounded Ringer clamber out of the secret hatch to the 51st floor and collapse. Surprised, she stumbled back and fell down the now open hatch, knocking her out, giving her amnesia, and causing Lotta Hart, who was secretly prowling the 51st floor, to faint.
Shortly afterwards, nurse Florence Niedler, who, while under coercion, was searching for the missing Ringer in order to help Excelsius Winner avoid being arrested, found the unconscious Faraday. Seeing that she had Edgeworth's business card, she brought her to Edgeworth's office, after also applying an excessive amount of dressings to her actually minor wounds. During this visit, Niedler gave Edgeworth the pin along with Faraday's other personal belongings. He held onto the pin and attempted to use it to remind Faraday of her real identity. Following his resignation, Edgeworth kept the pin in place of his own prosecutor's badge, though he returned it to Faraday once he was reinstated. He also removed the bug from it.
