Yuri Cosmos is the head of GYAXA and always goes around in a mini scooter resembling a segway. He is an arrogant man who believes that his name will go down in history as a figure of importance, but is also shown to care deeply about his employees and co-workers, being willing to endanger his position to protect his astronauts (though he initially attempts to lie about his protective actions in order to avoid the fallout and to keep the information that led him to that point classified). He also seems to be unaware of when people mock his grandstanding, believing that they are either praising him or pointing out normal traits of being a "great man."

• "Uchuu" comes from the word with the same pronunciation but with different characters (宇宙), which means "space".
• "Oogawara" means "riverside". Since the Milky Way and other galaxies are called rivers in Japan, he is not actually in the river but in a space station considered to be a side of the river.
• His Japanese name could also be a reference to Kunio Okawara, famous for designing mechas for several space themed giant robot animes including the famous Gundam series.
• His English given name "Yuri" is from the Soviet astronaut Yuri Gagarin who was the first human in space.
• "Cosmos", his English surname, is from the Ancient Greek "kosmos" which means "world, universe".
